Radim Hédl and Guillaume Decocq (University of Picardy, FR), initiated the establishment of the Historical vegetation ecology Working group of the International Association for Vegetation Science (IAVS). The new working group was officially established at the IAVS Council meeting on 25th July 2018.

The Working group is devoted to the study of plant species and communities as present legacies of the past development, and to the reconstruction of the past patterns in vegetation. As an integral part of IAVS, the Historical Vegetation Ecology Working group shares the IAVS goals and supports its activities. The purpose of the group is to foster development in the field of vegetation science by providing an interdisciplinary place to all scientists interested in historical aspects of vegetation. No time scale and no spatial scale are excluded.

Everyone interested in becoming a member of the working group just send an e-mail to R. Hédl and G. Decocq. IAVS membership is NOT required.
