I am PhD. student at the Department of Botany of the Charles University in Prague. In my thesis, I focus on modern approaches to be used in phytolith analysis to solve problems in paleoecology. Phytoliths are microscopic silica particles precipitated in plant tissues. Their taxonomic relevance still remain unclear. Similarly, it is not well understood how environmental conditions influence their shape. I use geometric morphometric techniques to analyse shape of phytoliths and disentangle these relationships. Currently, I apply phytolith analysis to test the Holocene continuity of species-rich forest-steppe ecosystems within project of my colleagues (Jan Roleček et al.).
